The Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board (HSHDB) has chalked out a Rs-100 crore project to boost Saraswati tourism in the district.

Prashant Bhardwaj, HSHDB vice-chairman, on Thursday said as per the proposal, the area between Pipli and Pehowa would be developed for various activities.

As per the official revenue records, the stretch is called the Saraswati drain and it is popularly believed to be the bed of the mythical Saraswati river that ceased to exist centuries ago due to various

geographical reasons.

Bhardwaj said a proposal had been submitted to the state government and the task to appoint a technical expert to implement the proposal was under way.

He was in Pehowa for the inauguration of the four-day International Saraswati Mahotsav. He said the state government had issued a notification to construct a dam, barrage and a water reservoir at Adi Badri in Yamunanagar.

Meanwhile, untimely rain dampened the spirit of the annual festival. There were fewer visitors and various political dignitaries also failed to make it to the function.

BJP MLA from Thanesar Subhash Sudha was the chief guest at the function as the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Bedi and chairman of the Haryana Staff Selection Commission BB Bharti could not reach Pehowa.
