Hamirpur, Mandi boys share top slot

DHARAMSALA: Girls dominated the top positions in arts and commerce streams in Class XII, the results of which were declared by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE) on Tuesday.

Girls dominated the top positions in arts and commerce streams in Class XII, the results of which were declared by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE) on Tuesday.

In the arts stream, Akshima Thakur from MSC Senior Secondary School, Sujanpur Tihra, topped the exams by scoring 95.8 per cent marks. Garima Mahajan (95.4 pc) from Maharishi Dayanand Adarsh Uch Vidyalaya, Chamba and Kewal (94.6 pc) from Government Senior Secondary School, Chaned, bagged the second and third positions.

In the commerce stream, Saijal Arora from Government Senior Secondary School, Nahan, topped with 96.6 per cent marks, while Prachi Chauhan (96.2pc) and Shaksham Lohia (95.4pc) from Career Academy Senior Secondary School, Nahan, bagged the second and third positions.

In the science stream, however, top two positions were bagged by boys. Sahil Kattna from Government Senior Secondary School, Bagwara in Hamirpur district, and Vikram Rewal from Vardhman Mahavir Public Senior Secondary School, Pungh, Sundernagar, in Mandi district, shared the top position by scoring 98 per cent marks. Samridhi Sehgal from Blue Star Senior Secondary Public School, Hamirpur, and Pranjal Rana from Government Senior Secondary School, Dhameta in Kangra district, were second topper, scoring 97.8 per cent marks. Akhil Rana from Government Senior Secondary School, Naura in Kangra district, Sneha Thakur, Ambition Classes Senior Secondary School, Mohal in Kullu district, and Devesh Rana Gurukul Public Senior Secondary School, Pakka Paroh, Amb in Una district, were third with 97.4 per cent marks.

The overall pass percentage remained at 70.18. Chairman of the board Rajiv Shankar, in a press note issued here, said 98,281 students appeared in the board examinations in which 68,621 were declared pass while 15,785 got 'reappear' in one subject and 13,167 were declared fail.

He also said candidates could apply for re-evaluation or rechecking till May 8.

Interestingly, the top positions were bagged by students from private schools. Only in commerce stream, topper Saijal Arora was from Government Senior Secondary School, Nahan.

Sahil wants to be software engineer

Hamirpur: Sahil Kattna, topper of the science stream, wants to be a software engineer. Sahil gave credit of his success to his parents and teachers of Government Senior Secondary School, Bagwara, in the district. He said the school had the best team of teachers that helped him score good marks. This year, government schools had performed well in comparison to many private schools in the district.— OC

Studied 8 hours a day: Saijal 

Solan: Saijal Arora, who topped the Class XII HP School Board Examination in commerce stream, gave the credit of her success to her school  principal HR Sharma, department teachers and parents.  Saijal, a student of Government Senior Secondary School, Sarahan, said she studied eight to nine hours every day, adding that she wanted to become a chartered accountant. “My teachers too have put in efforts to help me attain the top position,” Saijal said.
