Need to follow Guru’s message of love: CM

As per Guru Nanak, the Almighty is omnipresent, shapeless, timeless and sightless, said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while addressing people on the occasion of a state-level function on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak at Sri Gurdwara Sahib, Bus Stand, Shimla.

He said Guru Nanak explained that there is only one God who gives to everyone and we should not forget him and added that universal brotherhood was a strong theme in the Gurbani.

He said Guru Nanak was known for his political, social and spiritual beliefs based on love, equality, fraternity and virtue. He travelled to far-off places and preached the message of ‘One God’ and that ‘God constitutes the eternal truth’. Thakur was presented a ‘siropa’ by Jasvinder Singh, president of Gurdwara Singh Sabha Parbandhak Committee, Shimla. The CM also handed over the keys of an ambulance donated by the committee to the driver.

On the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya visited the gurdwara and paid obeisance during a function. Ex-CM Virbhadra Singh and Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj were also present on the occasion. The Governor said the Guru had shown the path of humanity to people by preaching the message of fraternity and affection.

Cleanliness drive marks Gurpurb

  • Youths from Punjab started a cleanliness drive at Nagar village near Manali in Kullu district on Tuesday on the occasion of Gurpurb. In all, 195 persons participated in the drive
  • Sources said the Punjab Government had organised an outdoor activity programme for these youths under the Youth Services and Sports Department to ensure their holistic development
  • Manu Sharma, a local resident, said a leadership camp was also held for the youths, in which they were imparted training about leadership qualities. He said a drug de-addition campaign was also one of the major components of this tour
