Rain lashes Shimla, Dalhousie & Mandi

SHIMLA: Shimla and surrounding areas were lashed by a severe thunderstorm, accompanied by rains and hail last night, disrupting normal life.

Shimla, June 13

Shimla and surrounding areas were lashed by a severe thunderstorm, accompanied by rains and hail last night, disrupting normal life. The storm interrupted power supply.

Widespread rains occurred in mid and lower hills and mercury dropped by few notches and minimum temperature plummeted 2.5 degree at Keylong while Kalpa, Manali and Kufri recorded a low of 6.0 degree, 7.1 degree and 7.9 degree.

Mercury dropped to 12.0 degree after rains and storm in Shimla while Bhuntar, Una and Nahan recorded a low of 13.2 degree, 21.0 degree and 22.1 degree.

Dalhousie in Chamba was the wettest with 44 mm rains followed by Salooni 23 mm, Kufri 21 mm, Kalpa19 mm, Mandi 18 mm, Seobagh and Banjar 16 mm, Keylong 15 mm, Fagu 14 mm, Mashobra, Bharmaur and Kahu 12 mm, Shimla 11 mm, Kheri 10 mm, Bilaspur and Arki 9 mm, Theog 8 mm, Jubberhatti, Jogindernagar and Kasauli and Manali 7 mm. The rains proved boon for the forest department and helped douse the forest fires in several areas in the state. The rains also created conducive conditions for sowing of Rabi crop.

The day temperatures fluctuated marginally and Una with a high of 40.2 degree was hottest in the region, followed by Bilaspur 39.9 degree, Sundernagar 36.6, Nahan 35.8 degree, Solan 35.0 degree, Bhuntar 33.5 degree, Palampur 33.1 degree, Dharamsala 30.6 degree, Shimla 27.0 degree, Manali 24.8 degree, Kalpa 22.1 , Keylong 20.2 degree and Kufri 17.7 degree.

The local MeT office has predicted Rains and thundershowers in lower and mid hills and rains or snow in higher hills over next six days from June 14 to June 19.
