Una, October 19

President of the Gurmat Sidhant Parcharak Sant Samaj and 17th descendant of founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev Baba Sarabjot Singh Bedi (in pic) said today that the mandatory provision of possessing a passport for visiting Gurdwara Nankana Sahib in Pakistan by Sikh devotees from India should be reconsidered. In a press release issued here, he said the provision meant that common devotees would not be able to visit the gurdwara.

Bedi said the 550th prakashotsav of the first Sikh guru would be relevant only if the common man was able to have access to Nankana Sahib. “The governments of India and Pakistan should consider swapping the Nankana Sahib shrine area with another patch of land near the Gurdaspur border,” he said. — OC
