State seeks Rs1,994 cr for losses due to rain

Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue, Manisha Nanda said that the state had urged the Centre to provide a compensation of Rs 1,994.83 crore to the state for the monsoon losses.

Citing the report on the losses finalised by the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), Nanda said the state suffered losses worth Rs 1,994.83 cr. The report had recommended a financial assistance for the damages suffered by the state during monsoon this year, she added.

She said the PWD suffered major losses due to damages to roads and bridges. The total losses had been assessed at Rs 881.24 crore.

She added that the losses of Rs. 151.98 crore had been suffered by the Agriculture Department, Rs 441.83 crore by the Horticulture Department and Rs 6.76 crore by Fisheries Department. As many as 343 persons lost their lives due to flash floods, landslides, cloudbursts and road accidents during the monsoon. Manisha Nanda said the IMCT had visited the affected parts of the state and asked the state government to supply additional information regarding the losses and damages during the monsoon.
