All-party meet should’ve called for calm: Omar

SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed disappointment over the all-party meeting in New Delhi for “failing” to make a call for calm as alleged incidents of violence against Kashmiris, including students outside the Valley, have ratcheted up tension.

Srinagar, February 16

National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Saturday expressed disappointment over the all-party meeting in New Delhi for “failing” to make a call for calm as alleged incidents of violence against Kashmiris, including students outside the Valley, have ratcheted up tension.

“Disappointed the resolution did not include a call for calm,” Omar said, minutes after the meeting agreed on the resolution which condemned the Pulwama attack.

Omar said there were “reports of violence in Jammu and tension in university and college campuses in some states”. “I would have expected an appeal for calm to have gone with the condemnation and condolences,” he said. — TNS
