Srinagar, March 23

In the backdrop of the biggest anti-militant operation in Kupwara this week, senior Army and police officers on Friday reviewed the security situation, particularly in north Kashmir areas which once were the hub of foreign terrorists.

The key review meeting held at Puhrupet was chaired by Lt Gen AK Bhatt, the Chinar Corps Commander, while IGP, Kashmir Range, SP Pani headed the police team. Apart from top officers, field commanders of both the forces attended the meeting, a spokesman of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps said.

“The aim of the meeting was to strengthen synergy among all agencies engaged in counter-terror operations, which have resulted in elimination of a large number of terrorists with minimum collateral damage in recent times,” the spokesman said, adding that north Kashmir, once the hub of foreign terrorists, had been turned around with a relatively stable security environment due to the joint efforts of the security forces and coordination among them.

Earlier, Lt General Bhat and Pani undertook an aerial survey of the area. The senior officers exhorted their men to continue to harmonise their endeavours to make north Kashmir terrorist-free. They also emphasised on continued efforts to minimise collateral damage during operations and positive engagement with the youth to ensure peace and tranquillity in the region.

The spokesman said a peaceful security environment would facilitate development, uninterrupted education, boost tourism sector and provide impetus to employment.
