Cong blames rumours, BJP calls for fresh polls

NEW DELHI: J&K ex-CM and Congress veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad today said the government panicked and dissolved the Assembly merely on basis of rumours.

New Delhi, November 21

J&K ex-CM and Congress veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad today said the government panicked and dissolved the Assembly merely on basis of rumours.

The BJP, however, called for fresh polls at the earliest, slamming the proposed alliance of Opposition parties as a “combination of terror-friendly parties”.

“The BJP was afraid of any other party staking claim to form the government. We had been in talks with our MLAs in to discuss what should be done. We had called a meeting earlier this week and the NC called a meeting yesterday but neither of the parties PDP, NC or Congress wanted a CM post or to form a government at this moment. A fearful BJP went ahead and dissolved the Assembly on rumours,” Azad said.

The BJP said on Twitter that the border state cannot afford horse-trading and instability keeping its security scenario in mind. "The proposed alliance between the Congress and the PDP broke up even before it was formed. They have taken contradictory positions on dissolution. One supports it and the other opposes it. The best option in such a scenario is to go in for a fresh election at the earliest. This Assembly cannot produce a stable government," it said. — TNS/PTI
