Jammu, July 11

Heavy rains in Jammu on Tuesday evening led to flooding of many low-lying areas and damaged property.

Due to the rains, the wall of a community hall, Kangra Fort, caved in near Barnai. It also damaged the house of local resident Jeevan Kohli. The flood water seeped into the basement of his house.

Residents of the Barnai area said there was no proper sewerage system in the area which often left houses submerged in water, even after a short spell of rain.

“If rains continue and no action is taken on time, the area will suffer a major loss due to floods,” said Rajni Koul, another resident of the area.
