Doda, August 20

Even as all educational institutions in Doda district have opened and normalcy has almost returned to the district, Jawahar Navodya Vidyalya (JNV) in the district has shut down its operation.

All students have been sent back to their homes and teaching and non-teaching staff have been told to go back immediately.

The school is giving a deserted look as only the watchman can be seen manning the premises.  Jawahar Navodya Vidyalya, situated at Arnora village, around eight kilometers from the district headquarters, runs up to the higher secondary level from Class VI on wards and hundreds of students from all over the district study in this institution. Being a boarding school, the responsibility of students’ safety lies with the administration.

Sources said officials of the school got a communication from Chandigarh to close the school  and were told to send back all students and staff to their homes. “On Monday morning, all students left the school and transportation was arranged for a few girl students who came from far off areas. There is no one in the school,” said a source.

While the school has been closed, other educational institutions have opened. The district administration has no clue as why this school has been closed. “There is no such direction from the district administration to close the JNV at Arnora,” D Sagar Dattatray, DC, Doda, said.

The DC said he would be talking to the Principal of the school to know as why they had closed down. It was only on August 19 that all schools reopened in Doda district but the JNV was closed yesterday.

Normalcy has almost returned in the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar, people are yet to get relief from the administration side.
