Against the backdrop of escalating tension along the international border and Line of Control (LoC), J&K Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Wednesday said Pakistan and its agencies across the border were trying every possible effort to de-stabilise peaceful atmosphere of Kashmir.

“Pakistan was under impression that the people of Kashmir would come out in big number and support their false propaganda but this time people did not pay any heed to their falsehood as they wish them to do and we are grateful to people for their cooperation and it will continue as people belong to us and we will not let any harm come to them’,” Dilbag Singh responded to a volley of queries on post abrogation of Article 370 situation in J&K.

The DGP said on the sidelines of his visit to the Drug De-addiction Centre, Jammu, where he interacted with the medical and paramedical staff and also the inmates. He enquired from the inmates regarding the facilities being provided to them.

Over the recent incident of setting a vehicle on fire and assaulting the driver, the DGP said, “It only shows frustration on the part of Pakistan and its agencies. People have cooperated with us in maintaining peace in the Valley for the past 43 days, but when the people started opening shops they (militants) threatened and tried to scare fruit growers and did not allow them to trade.”

Recently, security forces had neutralised a Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Asif Maqbool Bhat who attacked the family of a fruit trader in north Kashmir to scare others from resuming their business.

“We have identified militants for threatening and pasting scare posters. We have also identified militants and neutralised a couple of them. We have identified eight OGWs in Sopore, for printing posters and threatening people, six persons have been arrested from Kashmir and south Kashmir,” the police chief said.

On escalation of infiltration, the DG said, “ A large number of militants along the LoC (LOC) are waiting for infiltration as they were brought to the Army pickets, camps has been made in Gurez, Karna and Keran and Poonch areas, but our anti-infiltration grid are efficient enough to tackle them,” the chief said.

“Pakistan is also using social media for fomenting trouble in different parts of the country by propagating falsehood without any bases and I am sure people will be aware of Pakistan’s designs,” He added.

The DGP also blamed Pakistan for spearheading norco-terrorism in J&K; Singh said “We had arrested around 340 persons till September 2019, 12 persons have been booked under PAS and licenses of eight shops have been cancelled. Last year, the police arrested 350 in various cases of drugs.”
