Prerna Bhat, 20, a Kashmiri Pandit who has made big in Bollywood through her acting prowess and bears the pain of exile, is coming up with short film ‘Community In Exile’.

Prerna, who is doing lead roles in many TV serials, while talking to The Tribune, said she wanted to highlight the pain and suffering of her community through a film.

“I struggled hard in the tinsel town to create a niche for myself. Now, I want to showcase the horror and trepidation my community faced after the January 19, 1990, holocaust,” said Prerna.

She said though she was very young when they moved out of Kashmir, she grew up listening to painful stories of migration through her parents.

“Had the situation been normal, my profession would have been something else. But the Almighty drove me out to Mumbai and I can raise the issues of my community,” said Prerna.

Hailing from Janipur in Jammu, Prerna took to small roles in various TV serials and advertisements before she got her first big role in ‘Crime Patrol’ as a super cop.

At present, she is acting in Star Plus serial ‘Mariam Khan Reporting Live’.

She has also acted in popular television shows like ‘Pyaar Ka Dard Meetha Meetha’, ‘CID’, and ‘Savdhaan India’ and has worked in Bollywood films like ‘Grand Masti’, ‘Singh Saab the Great’ and ‘Future Toh Bright Hai Ji’.
