Two women were crushed to death after a speedy bus rammed into a roadside shop in the Amphalla area of Jammu on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 2.15 pm and resulted in the death of Raj Rani and Sweety Kumari of Akhnoor.

Reports said the bus rammed into the shop due to overspeeding. “Two women were killed in the accident. The vehicle was engaged with a school in Nagrota. We have filed a case under various sections. The driver managed to flee, but we will arrest him soon. We are also trying to contact the school authorities and if anything is found against them, legal action will be taken,” a police officer said.

“We have time and again asked the government to build a flyover in the area to end traffic congestion, but all in vain,” Sunil Dimple, a local resident said, adding, “The government is ill-equipped to handle the traffic mess in Jammu.”

“I also want the government to check the registration certificates of school buses and start construct work on the ring road and metro in Jammu,” he added.
