The Army on Tuesday said two Pakistani soldiers were killed in "calibrated operations" on Monday night in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district.

On Monday, Army soldier Sepoy Pushpendra Singh of Mathura was killed while foiling an infiltration bid in the same sector.

“In the retaliatory action to unprovoked ceasefire violation and repeated attempts to facilitate infiltration by the Pakistan Army in Tangdhar sector, own troops carried out calibrated operations on Monday night in which two Pakistani soldiers were killed,” Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.

There are also reports that Pakistan and Indian armies exchanged fire on Tuesday morning for at least an hour at Sudoora Tangdhar.

“There was, however, no loss of life during the ceasefire violation at Sudoora,” a senior police officer in Kupwara said.

It is the first major ceasefire violation along the LoC after Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan had agreed in May to “fully implement” the ceasefire pact of 2003 in “letter and spirit”.
