JALANDHAR: As the process of filing nominations for the coming state Assembly elections will start tomorrow, various candidates are picking the day across the seven-day schedule according to their own beliefs.

As the process of filing nominations for the coming state Assembly elections will start tomorrow, various candidates are picking the day across the seven-day schedule according to their own beliefs.

AAP candidate from Bholath Sukhpal Khaira has announced to file his papers on January 13, his birthday. “I chose the day simply to match up the two occasions,” he said.

Akali candidate from Phillaur Baldev Khaira will be filing his nomination on January 17. “That’s the date that my wife has suggested me after discussions with some priests and I agreed to it,” he quipped. Four-time MLA Ajit Singh Kohar will be presenting his papers on January 16.

Congress candidate Surinder Chaudhary says, “I have to visit some saints before finalising the day. Whichever day they will suggest, I will fix up for nomination papers.”

Meanwhile, the time of filing nominations will be from 11 am to 3 pm. District Election Officer Kamal Kishor Yadav said that as per the election schedule of the ECI, the last date for making nominations would be January 18. The scrutiny of nominations would be on January 19, while the date for the withdrawal of the candidature would be January 21.

Yadav further said that the nominations for all nine Assembly constituencies falling in Jalandhar district would be received by the returning officers (ROs) of the Assembly constituencies concerned at their offices. The RO for the Assembly constituency Phillaur (SC) is SDM Phillaur Amarjit Singh, RO for Assembly constituency Nakodar is SDM Kulpreet Singh, RO for Assembly constituency Shahkot is SDM Narinder Singh, RO for Assembly constituency Kartarpur (SC) is SDM Jalandhar-2 Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, RO for Assembly constituency Jalandhar West (SC) is Chief Administrator, Jalandhar Development Authority (PUDA) Jalandhar Harbir Singh, RO for Assembly constituency Jalandhar Central is SDM Jalandhar-1 Rajiv Verma, RO for Assembly constituency Jalandhar North is Regional Deputy Director, Local Government, Jalandhar Barjinder Singh, RO for Assembly Constituency Jalandhar Cantt is Secretary, Regional Transport Authority, Jalandhar, Rupinder Pal Singh and RO for Assembly constituency Adampur (SC) is Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar Jai Inder Singh.

He also made it clear that as per the guidelines of the ECI, only three vehicles would be allowed within the periphery of 100 meters ofthe ROs office at the time of the nomination.
