The Health Department today started a campaign themed Friday Dry Day from Guru Nanak Mission Hospital and Circuit House to check the prevalence of dengue larvae at public places and hospitals.

Coolers and open containers were checked to keep the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes at bay. Breeding of Aedes mosquito was found in 20 coolers of 42 checked at Guru Nanak Mission Hospital. While no larva was found at Circuit House, the staff and officials were made aware of the Friday Dry Day drive and cleaning of coolers every Friday.

They were also urged to keep the coolers dry for five to six hours to prevent breeding of mosquitoes that cause dengue or chikungunya.

District epidemiologist Dr Satish Kumar said all private and government hospitals should regularly check their premises to keep dengue at bay. He also urged the hospitals to celebrate Friday as a dry day every week. Soon, health teams of Urban Malaria Scheme will visit all other hospitals in Jalandhar.
