JALANDHAR: Owing to a high alert due to suspected movement of terrorists in the state, the district police carried out inspections at various guest houses and paying guest (PG) accommodations, the local bus stand and railway station to check the antecedents of tenants.

Owing to a high alert due to suspected movement of terrorists in the state, the district police carried out inspections at various guest houses and paying guest (PG) accommodations, the local bus stand and railway station to check the antecedents of tenants.

The inspections were carried out last night and this morning, by Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel and staff of the Division No 6 police station. Senior police officials said the inspections were carried out to ensure security and safety of residents.

Parminder Singh Bhandal, ADCP, Jalandhar, said instructions had also been issued to all police stations in the district to carry out inspections at PGs and guest houses in other areas.

He said the checks would continue in the coming days too. Documents of all guests, staying at hostels and guest houses near the bus stand were cross-checked.

He said the inspections were aimed at ensuring proper documentation by property owners. It was being ensured by them that they were providing rooms to outsiders only after a proper verification.”

“We are also creating awareness among the PG owners to ensure proper checking of their tenants as per guidelines issued by the police,” he said.

Bhandal said, “After the Amritsar attack, the police and SOG personnel are keeping a check at crowded places.”

“A total of 40 special operation group and other police personnel have been deployed at the bus stand, railway station, entry-exit points of the city and at crowded places, including the Pathankot bypass, Maqsudan, Model Town and other areas.”
