Phagwara, August 18
A Team of the Kapurthala police, led by DSP Manpreet Dhillon, succeeded to bust an inter-state gang of drug peddlers, and arrested its two members, J&K residents Nazir Ahmed and Mohammad Aslam Malik, and recovered 260 gm of intoxicant powder and Rs 7,89,600 in cash from them near Kala-Sanghan. They were operating in Amritsar, Kapurthala and Jalandhar districts and J&K.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police said the accused were selling drugs in various parts of the state after purchasing the same from Jammu and Kashmir.
Dhillon said Nazir came from J&K by air and landed in Amritsar while Aslam came from Kashmir in a Maruti Swift car (bearing registration no. JK-22-6288) and received Nazir. After selling some drugs in the Nakodar area, they went to Kapurthala to meet their other accomplices Kuldip Singh Benja, his wife Manjit Kaur, Gurmit Singh and Baljinder Singh.
DSP Dhillon said Kuldip was already facing 16 criminal cases and his wife Manjit was also facing a criminal case. Several more disclosures were expected from the accused during the interrogation, he said. — OC
