Managing traffic congestion at PAP Chowk has apparently become a harrowing task for traffic police officials. There is a jam-like situation every day. Pits and depressions emerged out after the recent rains have added to the traffic bottlenecks. Though soil and concretes have been laid on potholes, these scatter on roads after the frequent movement of vehicles. From PAP to Ramamandi, on both sides of the road, commuters found jostling to move past the traffic congestion. Besides, broken roads, unauthorised bus stopovers were also the main cause behind the traffic congestion.

A roadways employee said the traffic problem persists daily at PAP Chowk and the traffic here was unmanned since the past one week. On weekends, people get stuck in long jams. Also, there are lack of traffic police personnel to control the traffic. Private and state-owned buses make a halt to pick up passengers leading to traffic snarls.

A traffic police official, Narinder Singh, said the construction work of flyovers was scheduled for March 31 and till then, around 12 cops had been deployed at PAP Chowk to ensure a smooth and hassle-free traffic movement.
