Phagwara, December 13

Most of the NRIs have been lending a helping hand to a Phagwara-based social outfit, Helping Hands Organisation Phagwara (HHOP). The HHOP has been working to help the underprivileged for the past 25 years.

HHOP has been organising mass marriages of poor every year, besides scores of social projects.

Harminder Singh Basra, chairman HHOP, said:

“Joginder Bassi, chairman, Punjab Radio, London; and a Germany-based NRI, Tek Chand; besides other NRIs are attached with the HHOP.”

In this series, an NRI Krishan Sharma, and his family, donated 51,000 to the HHOP. Basra said the HHOP would continue it’s social service.

Another NRI, Jaswant Rai, donated woollen clothes, shoes and socks to 100 schoolchildren studying at Government Primary School, at a nearby Kot-Rani village, on Wednesday.
