Personalised bracelet rakhis are selling like hot cakes in the city as the festival of “Raksha Bandhan” draws near. Sellers are offering discounts and various gift hampers to lure customers.

Gift galleries, craft shops and some online shops, selling personalised rakhis, are offering customised greetings, coffee mugs and pens that have pictures of family engraved on these or name engraved on pens as a free gift.

Gift galleries are in demand and doing good business. “People love cherishing the moments spent together. Most of the girls buy personalised items be it rakhis or greeting cards.

“I have bought five rakhis and one personalised greeting that have pictures of us with sweet message printed on it for the memories we shared,” said Kavita, serving at a private organisation.

Palak Sethi, a city resident, said, “There are so many attractive rakhis in the market. I am confused while selecting the best one. I will buy a personalised rakhi with my brother’s name printed on it. It is the best rakhi among all so far, and I have already bought it as sent it to my brother living in Canada.”

Acknowledging the trend, a city-based gift shop owner at Model Town said, the sale of personlised rakhis had increased manifold this year.

“Earlier, people use to visit local general stores to buy simple threads and rakhis but now they are dependent on their jewellers and goldsmiths who engrave name or first letter of the name on gold and silver bracelets,” he added.

He said besides families from urban areas, people living in rural areas had shown interest in the latest trend as they prefer having something different each year.
