Residents are facing a lot of inconvenience due to a dilapidated road, leading to Bibi Bhani Complex, from Guru Amardas Nagar Colony, in Ward No 2.

The residents allege that poor quality coal tar and material was used for carpeting it. They said, the road was constructed just a week ago, and while the construction work was going on, the sewer pipe had broken and the people residing in the area apprised the Municipal Corporation (MC) of the leakage, but to no avail.

They said:“ The leakage has worsen the condition of the road as water was accumulated nearly for two-three days and the gravel poured on the road at the time of re-carpeting have reoccurred, posing threat to the commuters.”

“Potholes have come up on the road only after three days the road was constructed,” said a resident of the area.

“The condition of the road, which is full of disseminated gravels, has become a threat to the commuters, especially two-wheelers. The overflowing sewage is yet another problem. Water remains accumulated on the road. This shows that the work has not been done as per the quality specification,” said Manish, a resident.

Residents demanded that a quality check of the material used should be done. The MC, besides initiating action against the contractor concerned should also make sure that the good quality material has been used to construct the road.

Area Councilor, Sushil Kumar, said: “The road lies in a pitiable condition and has worsened after water from the leaking sewerage got into the road and remain stranded for days.”

He said, the MC was apprised of the poor re-carpeting of the road, but MC officials said it was due to water accumulation just after the re-carpeting.

“I will initiate a vigilance enquiry into the matter and make sure that the MC Commissioner will take a strict action against the contractor,” he added.
