Jalandhar, April 26

A meeting of PCMS specialist doctors Association and Psychiatry forum Jalandhar was held today at civil Hospital Jalandhar and both the organisations strongly condemned the action of an organisation at Kapurthala district where they created distress and hampered the smooth functioning of civil Hospital Kapurthala on April 8 and 9.

One of the patients admitted in De addiction Centre, Civil hospital, Kapurthala had committed suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom with shower pipe. A few people from some organization created a lot of trouble in the de-addiction centre and Civil Hospital Kapurthala and eventually got an FIR registered against a ward attendant for abatement of suicide and a magisterial inquiry has started against the treating Doctor.

A study states that there are 70 per cent of prevalence of suicide risk in such patients. In India, there are 7-10 suicides everyday in drug addict patients. Is it the fault of the Doctors, service providers, staff posted at de-addiction centres? Shouldn’t be the parents, attendants, friends, the organizations making hue and cry now, must be held responsible for these. Isn’t the society on the whole is responsible instead of the persons who are trying to treat and save these patients.
