Spiritual leader passes away

PHAGWARA: Acharaya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Ganga Nand Parvat (85), was passed away at a hospital in Chandigarh after a prolonged illness on Friday night.

Acharaya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Ganga Nand Parvat (85), was passed away at a hospital in Chandigarh after a prolonged illness on Friday night. He was ceremonially buried inside the premises of Pathshala Hadiabad, a sub-town of Phagwara, on Saturday evening.

A ‘Shobha yatra’ was organised before performing his last rites. Phagwara MLA Som Parkash; former minister, Joginder Singh Maan; District Congress Committee president Rani Sodhi; Union Minister of State Vijay Sampla; and representatives of various political, social and religious organisations were present.

Acharaya Mahammandleshwar Swami Vishwanand and Maheshwara Nand also attended the last rites of Swami Ganga Nand. A prayer meeting for the departed soul will be held on April 6 at Pathshala Hadiabad.
