‘New panchayats should curb caste discrimination’

With development taking back seat in a number of villages, youngsters pinned high hopes on new panchayats. Youngsters want that newly elected panchayats should make efforts to promote sports and education at village level.

Youngsters also seek to curb caste discrimination in villages. Amaninder Singh, a BTech graduate, of Lalton village said, “New panchayat members must take an initiative to encourage sports and hold annual sports meet. Playgrounds should be developed to promote outdoor games. Government Senior Secondary School in our village must be upgraded and hold talks with the department concerned to introduce Science stream in Class XI and XII.”

Another young voter, Dalvir Singh said, “Caste still divides people. Panchayats must work to ensure equality. They can play an important role to end caste-based discrimination. Besides, overall development of village should be ensured.”

“It pinches me a lot when I see there are separate cremation grounds for the SC and general category in various villages. Even religious structures have been given names on the basis of caste. Newly elected panchayat members must work to bring reforms,” said a young voter from Kila Raipur.

Prabhjot Singh of Kailpur village near Dakha said, “No sports festival is organised in our village. There is a need to promote sports by developing playgrounds. Moreover, panchayat must intitiate to upgrade primary school of our village.”
