The police today claimed to have nabbed three snatchers in two cases and recovered 16 stolen mobile phones and two motorcycles from their possession. The accused confessed to have perpetrated more than 75 snatchings in the past few months in the city.

In the first case, the police nabbed Vishal Sharma, alias Vicky (23), a resident of Subash Nagar. He was nabbed from Shivpuri Chowk by the CIA police. The police recovered 11 mobile phones and one motorcycle from him. The bike was also stolen by Vicky recently.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gagan Ajit Singh said the nabbed snatcher had a notorious past and his accomplices were also on the police radar. He said Vishal, along with his two accomplices, perpetrated 40 snatchings in the past three months in the city. He is also a drug addict and was snatching things to fulfill his drug needs.

In the second case, the police nabbed Rishu and Monu, both residents of Sardar Nagar. They were nabbed from the Model Town area. The police recovered five mobile phones and one motorcycle from their possession. The DCP said the police would seek police remand of the snatchers and they would be questioned further to make more recoveries.

The DCP said after he joined here a few days ago, he was studying the crime pattern. He found that in snatching cases, youth in the age from 22 to 28 were mainly involved and most of them were drug addicts. Now, a list of snatchers and other criminals was being prepared to strictly deal with them, he added.
