Carjackers take away SUV at gunpoint

JAGRAON: Carjackers took away an SUV at gunpoint near Mullanpur Dakha on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur highway on Monday night.

Carjackers took away an SUV at gunpoint near Mullanpur Dakha on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur highway on Monday night. They asked the SUV driver to get off near Chooharchak village in Moga district and then fled towards Moga.

The incident took place despite strict security arrangements made by the police on the eve of Independence Day celebrations. The police have registered a case against unidentified persons.

According to information, SUV owner Saurav Jain of Agar Nagar, Ludhiana, attended a wedding at a marriage palace near Mullanpur Dakha on Monday night. After dropping the owner at the marriage palace, the SUV driver, Balraj Singh, alias Raju, parked the car on the highway and kept sitting in the vehicle. 

In his statement to the police, Balraj said after a few minutes, two masked men arrived there and entered the SUV. According to Balraj, one of the accused put a gun on his head and asked him to drive. On reaching near Chooharchak village, they made the driver step out of the SUV and sped off. The carjackers also took away his wallet and mobile phone. 

Confirming the development, SHO of Mullanpur Dakha Jasvir Singh said the police had formed teams to trace the SUV after registering a case against unidentified persons.
