Councillors red flag development works

The councillors of various wards under the Ludhiana North constituency today accused the MC officials and contractors concerned for delaying development works in their respective wards.

Ludhiana North MLA Rakesh Pandey and councillors held a meeting with Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and the MC officials concerned.

Pandey said they asked the Mayor to fix responsibility of the officials as development works had come to a halt in various parts of the constituency after the Lok Sabha polls.

When work is allotted to any contractor, it becomes a responsibility of the official concerned to ensure completion of the project, he said.

Sources said questions were also raised as to why development works were being carried out only in selected constituencies while ignoring other segments.

The Mayor said the councillors highlighted issues related to non-functional street lights and choked sewers, among others. The officials have been asked to ensure early redessal of their grievances, he said.

Sandhu said those contractors who were delaying development works would be blacklisted. The show-cause notice would be served on officials who were ignoring the complaints, he said.
