A few shanties and a dhaba were completely gutted in the blaze on the Giaspura road last night. No injury or loss of lives was reported in the incident.

As per the available information, fire broke out at around 10.30 pm. Avinash, who was passing by the area, informed the fire brigade after noticing the blaze. Fire officials reached the spot within a few minutes and started evacuating people.

“After noticing fire and seeing the people running here and there, I immediately called the fire brigade. Fire tenders managed to douse the flame, but some shanties and adjoining dhaba were completely reduced to ashes,” said the eyewitness.

Fire officials said a short circuit could be the cause behind the blaze, but further probe was on to inquire about the exact reason.

Sources said a dhaba was being run by the people living in shanties. A small saloon adjoining the dhaba was also destroyed in the fire.

Gunny bags catch fire at machine tool factory

Another fire incident was reported from Dipansu International, a machine tools factory on the Jaspal Bhagar road last night. As the fire was not major, it was controlled by factory men at their own level. Dhiraj, owner of the factory, said some gunny bags caught fire at around 9 pm. Although fire brigade was called, they managed to douse the flames themselves by using fire extinguishers, he added.
