Ludhiana, October 17

Even though the Punjab Government announced a policy for regularisation of illegal colonies on April 20, and a revised policy is also being framed, the development of unlicensed colonies goes on, especially on the periphery of the city.

As a regulatory measure, a team of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA), led by Estate Officer Sonam Chaudhary, carried out demolition in seven colonies under development without licence. Internal development works, such as roads, streets, sewer and water lines, were dug up and light poles pulled down. Many structures were demolished during the drive.

According to Chaudhary, the drive was carried out at one colony each in Meharban village, Khwajke, two in Gaunsgarh and three colonies in Rawat. Sounding a note of caution to unscrupulous developers, she told them to desist from development of illegal colonies. She said stern action against unregulated development activities would continue.

The GLADA Chief Administrator, Parminder Singh Gill, and Additional Chief Administrator Jaspal Singh Gill have urged the developers to apply for regularisation of colonies under the policy which would be announced soon. They further made an appeal to the members of public not to invest their hard-earned money in buying plots and properties in illegal colonies.
