The police have beefed up the security in the region with the intent to handle situation, following the announcement of verdict of journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati murder case in which Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmit Ram Rahim is the prime accused.

Circle officers at Ahmedgarh, Payal and Raikot Palwinder Singh Cheema, Rachhpal Singh Dhindsa and Gurmit Singh Tejey claimed that they had enhanced the vigil in areas falling under their jurisdiction.

Specially constituted anti-sabotage teams have been directed to enhance vigil at and near Naam Charcha Ghars at Jagera on Ludhiana-Malerkotla road and Jalaldiwal on Raikot – Barnala road, besides undertaking combing operation and patrolling in the rural areas. Special emphasis has been laid on keeping a close watch on strangers and antisocial elements who might intrude the area under the guise of visitors and relatives of residents.

The police have also installed special checkpoints on the highways and link roads connecting Naam Ghars with surrounding localities, besides enhancing the night vigil and intensifying patrolling throughout the area falling under the Ludhiana and Sangrur districts.

Maintaining that the security had been enhanced to boost the morale of the residents and ensure safety during the celebrations, DSPs Gurmit Singh Tejey and Rachhpal Singh Dhindsa said beat officers had been directed to ensure that no anti-social element or stranger sneaks into the area under the guise of a relative or a friend of a resident.

“Beat officers have also been advised to organise nakas at sensitive points in shifts,” said Gurmit Singh Tejey. Flag marches were also organised in certain areas.
