A good number of elderly voters and youngsters today seemed to be elated by the fact that the NOTA (none of the above) option was given fifth place among 21 candidates, who were in the fray for Fatehgarh Sahib Lok Sabha seat. “It was bound to happen one day,” they shouted in an excited tone.

“Change is a steady process, but at the same time it is the law of nature. It is with the passage of time that the electorate shall realise that we have just banged our head against the wall. Wait for the day when each and every voter of our country shall be so disappointed by the politics of opportunism, deceit and fabrication that they would press NOTA. We are very satisfied by the fact that a total of 12,973 voters have opted for NOTA. The category mainly comprised of the elderly people for whom the claims of the candidates hold no importance now or the educated youngsters who have already given up all hopes of getting anything worthwhile from the government,” said an informed voter.

“They are all the same. So it is better to favour NOTA over those who are going to misuse government funds and use the ignorant villagers for their petty ends once in power,” expressed a distraught villager.

“These people have befooled us time and again. Neither the alliance nor Congress can think about general welfare. Rather they have their own coffers to fill,” commented voters of these villages.

“Why should we vote for such people after all? NOTA was the preferred choice of a handsome number of voters this time, which means that the cold war has already started. We are eagerly looking forward to the red-letter day when the awakened voter of our country shall reject all and prefer NOTA as his first choice. Then we can think of ringing in peace and prosperity for the nation,” said a social worker of Doraha, who opted for NOTA.
