With the intent to spread awareness about causes and consequences of drug abuse, the designated officials in Raikot, Sudhar and Pakhowal blocks have started organising workshops and seminars at villages and localities falling under their jurisdiction.

The movement has been launched in continuance of state-wide anti-drug campaign and in pursuance of orders of the Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal.

The organisers have been asked to rope in office bearers of constitutional bodies and social organisations, including Drug Abuse Prevention Officers (DAPOs) enrolled during the anti-drug crusade launched by the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh earlier.

Raikot SDM Himanshu Gupta said the block-level officials in civil administration, Health Department and Education Department had been advised to organise workshops and seminars in villages and localities assigned to them according to the roster released by his office.

Resource persons, including medical officers, education officers, Block Development Project Officers, Child Development Project Officers and social activists have been asked to highlight causes and consequences of drug addiction. Block Development Project Officer Raikot Navneet Joshi, SMO Payal Dr Gurdeep Singh, SMO Raikot Dr Nina Nakra Pilani and BDPO Sudhar Lakhwinder Kaur were reported to have organised camps in localities assigned to them.

Raikot SDM Himanshu Gupta said, “Workshops and seminars have been scheduled in a manner that routine work of concerned officials is not disturbed at all. To ensure zero tolerance, all in-charges have been advised to submit daily report supported with visuals of the performance.”
