Panel for waste mgmt bylaws

LUDHIANA: The Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) of the MC formed a committee for study of Solid Waste Management and Cleanliness & Sanitation Bylaws 2019.

The Finance & Contract Committee (F&CC) of the MC formed a committee for study of Solid Waste Management and Cleanliness & Sanitation Bylaws 2019. Committee members will submit a report with suggestions for fixing the garbage collection charges and penalties for violations of the by-laws.

The MC is supposed to table a resolution for imposition of these bylaws in the MC’s general house meeting. The committee will recommend fixing the door-to-door garbage lifting charges. Besides, there will be a provision to charge penalties on throwing or dumping waste in the open as per the by-laws.

According to information, the MC is supposed to adopt the bylaws in the house meeting before September 15, but the committee has been formed now. It is learnt that the committee will be asked to submit the report at the earliest so that the bylaws can be adopted.

Reserve price increased

The reserved price for Feroze Gandhi parking sites has been increased from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 80.10 lakh now. The decision was taken by the F&CC today, informed Zonal Commissioner Neeraj Jain. During the e-auction of the six parking sites, a contractor had placed Rs 8.02 crore for Feroze Gandhi parking lots, but the contractor had later claimed that the bid was placed due to an error. The contractor concerned has been debarred while the e-auction of the Feroze Gandhi Market parking and Sarabha Nagar I Block market will be held again.

Rahon Road project

The panel has given green signal for installation of a sewer lane at Rahon Road to deal with the problem of overflowing sewers. MC secretary Tejinder Singh informed that around 492 resolutions of various works had been approved by the panel in the last two days.

Composition fee for street vendors increased

The MC has increased the composition fee which is charged from street vendors for stationing their carts. This fee has been increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1,500 from small carts/vends (without roof) and the carts with roof will be charged around Rs 3,000. The composition fee of moving eateries has also been increased by the F&CC. The Rehri Phari Federation Ludhiana said they would oppose the increase in composition fee.

Meanwhile, sources said two contractors, who were awarded different works in the past, were also blacklisted by the committee today. SE HS Bhullar could not be contacted for comment.
