Raikot Road, Jagraon, which is one of the busiest roads of the town, has been in a poor condition. Being a state highway connecting Jalandhar with Barnala, this road also connects several of villages with Jagraon.

But due to utterly bad condition of the road, the commuters travelling on this road have to face a lot of inconvenience. The residents residing in different localities situated on Raikot Road have also been facing huge problems due to poor condition of the road.

This road has been in a shambles from a long period of time. The road has neither been constructed nor repaired for last many years. The area residents have been eagerly waiting for the starting of the construction work of this road.

There are countless pits on this two kilometer long stretch of the road which have been causing a lot of problems to the commuters traveling on this road. Being a state highway connecting Jalandhar and Barnala, this is quite busy road and therefore a lot of people travel on this road every day.

Besides all this, the road also connects dozens of villages including Roomi, Kamalpura,Binjal,Nathuwala, Talwandi, Gagra, Kothe Pone, Akhara and several others with Jagraon.

Several prominent places including some hospitals, banks and educational institutions are also located on this road due to which a lot of traffic remains on this road throughout the day.

Government Science College, two government schools and two private schools are also located on this road and the students as well as teachers of these institutes often complain off facing a lot of problems while traveling on this road.

The area residents rued that this road has not been constructed for a long period of time and it has broken from several places “This road has been in a shambles since a long time due to which commuting on this road has become highly difficult. The road is broken from several places and a lot of dust keeps flying in the air whole the time due to increasing vehicular traffic which is most troubling thing for us”, said Ritesh, a college student.

According to area residents, they raised the issue with the authorities of local Municipal Council several times but nothing has been done to improve the condition of the road so far. “We have requested the authorities to at least repair the road but all our requests seem to have fallen on deaf ears”, claimed Maheshinder Singh, a local shopkeeper.
