Ludhiana, January 4
Now, the reconstruction work of Jagraon Bridge is expected to be completed by June. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, along with some Congress workers, recently met Northern Railways General Manager TP Singh, making a request for the early completion of the work.
Sandhu express his concern over the slow pace of work for the reconstruction of the bridge. He said the project was being delayed “deliberately”.
“We told the General Manager that the project is being delayed due to political interference. However, the General Manager denied any such interference. The GM assured us that the project will be completed by June 15. However, we requested him to get the project completed before Baisakhi on April 13,” said Sandhu.
Ludhiana Railway Station Director Abhinav Singla said the railways were making efforts to complete the project by June this year. The General Manager has given instructions to speed up the work, he said.
Notably, MP Ravneet Singh Bittu had earlier assured the residents that the bridge would be reconstructed by March. However, the work is moving at a snail’s pace. Earlier, some city-based NGOs had also staged a protest in this regard.
