With the increased number of swine flu cases, the Health Department has chalked out a plan to take help from rural health officers, Aanganwadi workers, block development and panchayat officers for disseminating knowledge about swine flu and dengue.

Currently, the media wing of the department is doing the needful, but keeping in view the spread of swine flu, the department had sought help from rural health officers and others to help in spreading awareness about the disease.

“We had asked Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Aggarwal to direct the rural medicos and Panchayat development officers to extend a helping hand in creating awareness in the schools located in the rural belt. The DC has passed instructions for the same. They will be assisted by the media wing of the department,” said Dr Ramesh, district epidemiologist.

“Be it a private school or government school, the department visits these schools and make students aware during the morning assembly,” he said.

“Kids are a powerful medium to disseminate knowledge. They will go back home and discuss the same with their parents. So passing on the knowledge to a kid means passing on the knowledge to the entire family,” said Dr Ramesh. The department visits 5-6 schools in this regard daily.
