The police claimed to have busted two gangs involved in several cases of loot and robberies. The police have recovered several sharp weapons from them.

The persons arrested by the Daba police have been identified as Arvinder Singh, alias Amna (21), a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar; Sonu (18) of Daba; Rahul (18) of Gurga Nagar; and Prince (20) of New Janta Nagar.

Additional DCP (Zone 2) Sandeep Garg said the gangsters had been indulging in hooliganism in the Daba area and had literally created their terror among residents. “They recently looted a man at Jaspal Nagar in broad daylight. Residents dare not come forward to file complaints against them,” Garg added.

Garg said four cases of fighting, theft, robbery etc were registered against members of the gang at the Daba police station. One of their aides, Raman Rajput, escaped and raids were on to nab him.

The police recovered a sword, a knife and other sharp weapons from their possession.

Meanwhile, the police nabbed Dalip Pandey (23), who was wanted in three criminal cases registered against him at the Daba, Moti Nagar and Shimlapuri police station.

Looters’ gang

The Crime Branch 2 of the city police nabbed five members of a looters’ gang and recovered seven stolen mobile phones, one auto-rickshaw, Rs 2,000 in cash and sharp weapons from them. The arrested persons have been identified as Harjinder Singh, alias Teetu of Sundar Nagar; Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukhi of Sundar Nagar; Sukhwinder Singh of Manakwal; Pawan Kumar of Shimlapuri; and Vishal Mehra of Daba. Commissioner of Police RN Dhoke stated that they owned an auto-rickshaw, which they operated during night only. They took migrant passengers and looted them at isolated places.  They have confessed to having committed more than a dozen loots.
