Ludhiana, January 22

An elderly tea vendor was hacked to death by unknown persons near railway station last night. Passers-by found his body wrapped in a blanket on the road and informed the police.

The vendors living in the area said the deceased was known as Baba Machhli Wala and he used to sleep on the footpath. He is said to be aged around 65. He ran a tea stall where he also sold eggs and fish. Baba had been running the tea stall for the past more than 15 years.

According to information, the vendor closed his kiosk in the evening and slept on the footpath. Some persons hit him with sharp weapons on the face and the head. The police suspect the role of two servants, who worked at his vend, in the murder, as they have been missing since last evening

Additional DCP Gurpreet Singh said the police were making efforts to trace the two servants.
