Ludhiana: The counselling cell of the Khalsa College for Women organised an awareness workshop “Help and Heal” to deal with issues of incest abuse.



Ludhiana: The counselling cell of the Khalsa College for Women organised an awareness workshop “Help and Heal” to deal with issues of incest abuse. Dr Aman Amrit Cheema, associate professor, along with Supreet from the ‘End-Incest Trust’ presented a comprehensive picture of delicate issues of sexual abuse. Supreet outlined research aspects, including prevalence and impact of incest on teenagers and young adults. Dr Cheema presented legal provisions made by the Indian Constitution to deal with sexual abuse. The KCW Synapse Community Club members distributed took an oath to spread the message of preventing and dealing with any kind of sexual abuse.

Students bring laurels

Vishal Kumar, BA first year student of the Gobindgarh Public College, Alour, brought laurels by winning a silver medal in high jump at the Panjab University inter-college annual athletic meet. Hasandin, BA first year student and Vikas Kumar of BCom first year won a bronze medal each in 400 meters hurdle and 20 km walk events, respectively. More than 60 teams from various colleges affiliated to the PU participated in the competition.

Session held on breast cancer 

A lecture on cancer awareness was organised at the Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women. Dr Ashwin Philips, Dr Pamela George and Dr Preety Negi apprised students to plan and formulate sound cancer control strategies based on scientific basis. — TNS
