DCW chief to end fast today

NEW DELHI: Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, announced this evening that she would break her indefinite hunger strike on Sunday as the Union Cabinet has approved an ordinance to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women, announced this evening that she would break her indefinite hunger strike on Sunday as the Union Cabinet has approved an ordinance to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

AAP MLAs of Punjab Nazar Singh Mansa, Aman Arora, Meet Hayer, Rupinder Ruby, Harpal Cheema, Baljinder Kaur, Sarabjit Kaur, Kulwant Pandori, Pirmal Khalsa and HS Phoolka and Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira had met Maliwal to show solidarity.

Maliwal has been on fast since April 13, demanding death penalty for rapists of children after the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua and other instances that took place recently.

Earlier, she turned down the request of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to break her fast.

Man held for raping, killing 4-month-old

  • A man has been arrested for allegedly raping and killing a four-month-old baby girl in Indore city of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Saturday, a day after the infant's body was found in the basement of a commercial building
  • “CCTV images show Naveen Gadge, 25, carried the baby on his shoulder and took her to the basement of a commercial building, around 50 metres away from where her family was sleeping,” Indore Deputy Inspector General HC Mishra said
  • After raping the child, he threw her on the ground from a height and she died, he said. Her body was found in the basement on Friday afternoon PTI
