Anandpur Sahib, January 19
Local MLA and Speaker Rana KP Singh today said thousands of residents living in nearly two dozen villages in the Changar area near Anandpur Sahib are likely to get major relief as the Chief Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the lift irrigation scheme for the area on January 24.
He said Rs 65 crore would be spent on providing water for agriculture and domestic requirement of the local population. Besides, the Chief Minister will distribute loan waiver certificates to 3,500 farmers, he added.
The lift irrigation scheme has been a long-pending demand of residents of the Changar area which comprises over two dozen villages on the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border. During summer season, wells and ponds in villages go dry. As there is no source of irrigation, residents are forced to leave the area with their cattle. — TNS
