Muktsar, October 31

The district administration has decided to give bicycles to 264 girls of Classes IX to XII who have stopped going to school because of lack of transportation. The administration has named scheme “Saadi dhee saada maan” (our daughter our pride). A meeting was held here yesterday where donors agreed to arrange 116 bicycles. A number of government employees have come forward to donate money for the purpose.

Prof Gopal Singh, secretary, District Red Cross Society, Muktsar, said: “The scheme is the brainchild of DC Sumeet Jarangal, who will donate money for 10 bicycles. One bicycle costs nearly Rs 1,500. The administration will buy 300 bicycles from a reputed firm.”

Besides reports from other areas, teachers of government school at Badal village have submitted that at least 23 girl students of Class IX stopped coming to school due to lack of transport facility.

Jarangal said: “To reverse the development, we have taken this initiative. The IMA has agreed to give 10 bicycles. Similarly, Rampura Phul SDM will pay for 10 bicycles. I appeal to the residents to come forward for this cause.”
