Phagwara man shot by robbers in Manila

Gurpreet Singh (35), alias Gopi, of Kultham village, 8 km from Phagwara, was reportedly shot dead in Manila capital of Phillipines on Sunday.

A pall of gloom descended on the village when the news reached here. Villagers thronged Gopi’s house to condole his death.

Paramjit Singh, grandfather of the deceased, said his grandson went to Manila 13 years ago and was working as a financier there. He added that a friend of Gopi informed them about his murder on Monday.

The incident took place when Gopi was on the way back home from his office on a scooter. Two unidentified armed assailants shot him dead and managed to flee with his bag full of currency and scooter. Gopi is survived by his wife and two daughters.
