A US-based NRI, Gursewak Singh, and his mother Surjit Kaur have been booked for demanding dowry and abandoning his wife. A case has been registered at the Moga City-I police station.

Harpreet Kaur of Gobindgarh Basti in Moga was married to Gursewak Singh on May 12 this year.

She was a divorcee at the time of marriage and had a three-year-old son. Gursewak too was a divorcee. He agreed to marry her and take her and her son to the US. However, after going back to the US, he started demanding Rs 10 lakh from her. Ultimately, he stopped talking to her. On October 11, he came back to India and started pressurising her to bring money from her parents.

He also took some indecent photographs of his wife and threatened to upload them on social media. On October 27, he went back to the US without informing her. On October 31, she and her son were thrown out of the house by her mother-in-law. She was also allegedly beaten by them. Investigation is underway.

On Friday, a Canada-based NRI and his parents was booked for demanding dowry and abandoning his wife.
