Chandigarh, October 22

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday reviewed the Amritsar situation from Tel Aviv (Israel) through video-conferencing. He directed officials to ensure quick disbursal of compensation to the families.

He was briefed by his Chief Principal Secretary, Suresh Kumar, along with Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Sangha and Commissioner of Police Sudhanshu Srivastava.

The officers told the CM that the situation was under control and all casualties (58), barring one, had been identified. Capt Amarinder asked the officials to complete the socio-economic profiling of the victims at the earliest so that their rehabilitation could be taken up on priority.

Meanwhile, the CM held a series of interactions with officials of some of Israel’s leading companies to explore investment opportunities and assess the potential for collaboration in the state’s infrastructural, agricultural and water management sectors.

At a meeting with officials of Tyros International Group Ltd, the Chief Minister discussed possibilities of investment by the group in the areas of energy, water, affordable housing, schools and hospitals.

During a tour of NaanDanJain Irrigation Farms, Capt Amarinder lauded the work being done by the 80-year-old company, which was recently acquired by a leading micro-irrigation-based Indian firm, in the field of precision agriculture and horticulture. The technology is being used by the company on its farms to improve the quality and yield of various vegetables and fruits, including brinjal/eggplant avocado and citrus varieties.

Bir Devinder questions Capt’s Turkey vacation

Chandigarh: Former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh has targeted the Chief Minister over his upcoming vacation in Turkey in the wake of the Amritsar train tragedy. Comparing Capt Amarinder with Emperor Nero, “who fiddled while Rome burned”, Bir Devinder said the CM could ill-afford the vacation when people were suffering. tns
