Patiala, January 16

The Vigilance Bureau has arrested Sheeshpal, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), posted at Urban Estate police station while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.

A Vigilance team led by Pritpal Singh arrested the accused cop following a complaint by Surjit Singh, who had alleged that Sheeshpal had demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 in a dowry case filed by his wife.

“I am fighting a court case with my wife Rajni Hans, who has alleged dowry harassment by me and my parents. The case was being probed by Sheeshpal,” Surjit alleged in his complaint. “He had demanded Rs 30,000, threatening to register an FIR against me and my parents,” he alleged. — TNS
