Scooterist, cyclist killed in accidents

CHANDIGARH: Two accident deaths — one of an Activa rider and the other of a cyclist — have been reported from the city. An Activa rider was killed after the scooter was hit by a speeding truck near the Colony No. 4 light point in the Industrial Area this morning.

Two accident deaths — one of an Activa rider and the other of a cyclist — have been reported from the city.

An Activa rider was killed after the scooter was hit by a speeding truck near the Colony No. 4 light point in the Industrial Area this morning.

According to the police, complainant Babu Nath reported that he had some work at Colony No. 4 following which he reached there. In the meantime, his elder brother Dev Nath also arrived there on his Activa scooter.

According to the complainant, as soon as Dev Nath stopped his scooter near the Colony No. 4 light point, a speeding truck hit the scooter from the rear, leaving Dev Nath seriously injured.

The police were informed and the victim rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police have registered a case against truck driver Panne Lal at the Industrial Area police station and the truck has been impounded. In another incident, a cyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding car near the Sector 40/41 light point yesterday. 

According to the police, complainant Naveen Kumar, a resident of Sector 41, reported that his father Surinder Singh, who was riding a bicycle, was hit by a speeding Etios car near the Sector 40/41 light point on November 18. 

The complainant’s father was injured and rushed to the PGI, where doctors declared him brought dead.

A case against the car driver, identified as Deepak Singh, a resident of Milk Colony, Dhanas, has been registered at the Sector 39 police station in this regard.
