New Delhi, June 12
The Indian wrestling team put up a disappointing performance at the ongoing freestyle World Cup at Los Angeles, going down tamely to hosts USA 1-7 and Iran 0-8 in Group B to bow out of the tournament.
The Indian team lost seven of its eight bouts against the US in the opening round and then suffered a humiliating whitewash against Iran in the next round.
The likes of Bajrang Punia (61kg), Rajneesh (65kg), Satywart Kadian (97kg), among others, failed to make a mark, losing their respective bouts rather tamely. Amit Kumar (57kg) and Hitender (125kg) forfeited their bouts against both USA and Iran.
Praveen Rana was the only Indian who logged a victory in the tournament, against USA’s Alexander David Dieringer (5-4) in the 74kg weight division. — PTI
